Amrita School of Ayurveda has an excellent Library, perhaps the best among all Ayurveda College Libraries in India. , on third floor of the school is a domain for information seekers; be it students, faculty or researchers. The library has been carefully planned to have more space and natural lighting for the comfort of the users. It has the capacity to accommodate 300 students at a time. Besides the comfortable seating and reading environment, the library is well equipped with modern facilities and resources in the form of CD-ROM, online databases, video cassettes, books, journals, back volumes of journals, theses, WHO publications etc. Facilities such as photocopying, fax, access to internet resources, online journals and e-learning are some of the special features. There is a separate audio-visual room, computer lab, group study area and private study area in the library. The library has all the facilities for the students to learn. The Library is committed to provide a world-class information support to its users.


Objectives


• To acquire, manage, provide and disseminate Health Sciences information to students, faculty and research scholars of the constituent Health Sciences Institutions of Amrita University. Currently these include Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, Nursing, Allied Health Sciences and Life Science institutions.
• To provide timely, accurate and current information and materials to users for education, teaching and research.
• To provide information services and access to bibliographic and full text digital and printed resources to support the scholarly and informational needs of Amrita School of Ayurveda.
• To support and facilitate the research, learning, teaching and administrative activities of the University by organizing, maintaining and providing access to appropriate literature and information resources in such a way as to provide optimum benefit for library users.
• To provide an appropriate and comfortable environment and facilities for the use of library services and for individual and group study.
The Amrita School of Ayurveda Library provides the following value added services to its users in addition to all routine type of services.
• Reference Service:
Reference service is a personal aid provided to the user by the library staff in interpreting library collection for study and research. The library staff assists the user to locate needed information from the available information resources. On the basis of collection, library provides reference service to its users.
• Current Awareness Service:
Currently the library offers the following current awareness services to the users.
- By telephone calls
- Display of new additions in the library
- Publishing of “new acquisition” in library micro site
• Circulation:
The books are issued to Interns, undergraduate Students and Faculty Members. Bound/unbound journals, audio-visual materials and CD-ROMs are for in-house use only.
• Photocopying:
Through this service, users can get photocopies of articles from journals and books as and when required.

 

Only books will be made available for circulation to the undergraduate Students and Faculty Members. The reference books; bound and unbound journals; audio-visual materials and CDs are for in-house use only. The Undergraduate Students are not allowed to issue books from the library. Interns can borrow book from the library. The borrowers’ cards will be issued for those who are eligible to borrow books. The books are loaned for a specific period i.e. for 15 days, which is further extended if there is no demand for the same from other users. The borrowed materials are to be returned promptly to the library on or before the due-date stamped. All students should return the borrowed books from the library before appearing for the University examinations.
The following is circulation limits for different categories of users:

Professor and Associate Professor 4 15 days
Assistant Professor, Reader and Lecturer 3 15 days
Students 2 15 days
Interns 1 15 days


The rules and regulations of circulation are as follows:


• Borrowers must bring borrower’s card every time when they visit the library to borrow books
• Only books will be issued out
• Borrower’s card is not transferable
• The borrower is responsible for damage or loss of books
• Borrowers has to return borrower’s card when they leave the institutions
• Books are required to be presented physically at the circulation counter for renewal
• Borrowed books must be returned on before the due date
• Members must replace the book if lost with latest edition
• Books will be reserved if there are no reservations
