3 types of foods are:

Sattvic :
Satvic food increases life purity,strength,health and happiness.
.These foods are fresh, whole, natural of good quality, yet mild, neither over nor under cooked, gives calm alertness and at the same time a state of quite energy. They are said to nourish the consciousness. They not only provide nourishes for the body, but they do not adversely affect the overall energy state. They add vitality to the total system by bringing a perfect, harmonious balance of energy states in the food itself.
Rajasic food:
Foods that are very hot bitter, sour dry or salty are rajasic.they destroy the mind body equilibrium , feeding the body at the expanse of the mind .too much rajasic food will over stimulate the body and excite the passions, making the mind restless and uncontrollable. rajasic foods includeg in a hurry is also considered rajasic. ,

Tamasic food:
It is stale, more or less spoiled food, containing foul odour, artificial additives and which is not at all useful to nourish either body or mind.those foods which are dead, partially spoiled , which have lost thier nutrients.

• fruit and vegetables,
• pure fruit juices
• cows milk, butter and cheese honey and herb teas.

Changing your diet

Here are a few hints to ease the changeover


1) Ensure that you have a regular intake of good foods, such as nuts, pulses, whole grains and cheese.
2) eat a salad of seasoned vegetables each day –cut and grate some leave others whole to give you a variety of textures.(How to give seasoning to the raw salad- In a small frying pan take 2 teaspoon of sunflower oil or ghee Add half a teaspoon each of black mustard seeds, cumin seeds add the cut fresh vegetables and fry them for about 1 minute and later serve with little black pepper powder and salt)
3) Include plenty of green, leafy vegetables in your diet.
4) if you are cooking vegetables, do so as quickly as possible, in oder to preserve their
5) Eat some fresh fruit every day. If you cook fruit, do so rapidly-long slow cooking destroys a lot of the vitamins.
6) Take care that the food you eat is fresh and wholesome-state nuts wrinkled rotten fruit and limp greens become tamasic and lose much of their original food value.
7) avoid denatured foods such as white flour, white breads, cakes, refined cereals, canned fruit, vegetables and drinks, and saturated fats, such as hydrogenised oils
8) Cook only as much as you are going to eat and no more. Reheating food kills much of its nutritional value.
9) be inventive and adventurous-introduce variety into your diet by experimenting with new ingredients.
10)l earn to substitute more sattvic for rajasic or tamasic ones-use tofu instead of eggs for instances honey, jaggery for sugar, herbal teas for black tea
